Effective collision warning
and autonomous braking.

Active Brake Assist 6 in the Econic.

Active Brake Assist 6 detects potential collisions and reacts to pedestrians and cyclists with automated full-stop braking in the speed range up to 60 km/h. The system is based on camera technology with additional radar sensors on the headlamps and to the side and can trigger a three-stage warning in the event of danger. For better safety in urban traffic.

Always alert.

The risk of collisions between trucks and other vehicles in front can be high. This is particular true in inner-city traffic, if sudden traffic jams occur and in stop-and-go traffic. Pedestrians crossing unexpectedly also pose a high risk of accident as the driver often only has fractions of a second to brake.

Active Brake Assist 6 (ABA 6) can assist Econic drivers in critical situations* – from issuing effective acoustic and visual warning signals right through to automatic full-stop braking.

The eEconic has met the requirements of the European General Safety Regulation (GSR) since May 2024.

Precise control through fusion sensor technology.

Active Brake Assist 6 follows on from the fifth generation of this proven emergency braking system. The combination of camera and radar technology lets ABA 6 react to potential collision risks even in poor visibility conditions and initiate partial or full-stop braking.

Thanks to 270° fusion technology with six new sensors and integrated multi-lane monitoring, ABA 6 can detect critical traffic situations even better. This includes pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road, coming the other way or in your own lane, as well as possible hazards when approaching stationary or flowing traffic, even in the wide bends typical of motorways.

Preventing rear-end collisions.

Active Brake Assist 6 can detect vehicles in front and stationary obstacles in your own lane at vehicle speeds up to 90 km/h. If the system detects a hazardous situation, a three-stage reaction is triggered immediately:

  1. Visual signals and a loud beep
    warn the driver.
  1. Partial braking with approx. 50% braking power
is performed to reduce the speed (if the driver has not already reacted).
  1. Full-stop braking
is initiated to bring the vehicle to a standstill (if the driver has still not reacted).

The chain of reactions is further shortened if the system detects crossing pedestrians or persons standing on the carriageway. In this case, the driver is warned visually and acoustically as before, but partial braking is autonomously initiated immediately. Pedestrians are detected at vehicle speeds of up to 60 km/h if pedestrians or cyclists cross the lane of the truck, come in the opposite direction or walk in the same lane. Radar technology ensures greater reliability even in poor visibility.

Electronic parking brake with HOLD function.

The electronic parking brake of the Econic harmonises perfectly with Active Brake Assist 6 and ensures greater comfort and safety. When the vehicle is stationary, for example after emergency braking, the automatic HOLD function prevents the vehicle from rolling away unintentionally. When the journey continues, the parking brake is released automatically as soon as the accelerator pedal is pressed.

Taking safety further.

When Active Brake Assist 6 initiates automatic full-stop braking, the hazard warning lights are activated at the same time to warn following road users. When the vehicle is stationary, the electric parking brake is also activated to prevent the Econic from rolling away unintentionally. This also helps the driver in the period immediately after critical situations.

The safety assistance system forms part of the basic equipment of the Econic. It is active as standard and does not have to be activated separately using a switch. The intelligent warning system reduces the risk of rear-end collisions or the severity of accidents within the system limits. However, the driver is still fully responsible for driving the vehicle safely. If necessary, the driver can intervene at any time, override the brake system and react individually to hazardous situations at their own discretion, for example by moving the steering, kicking down or emergency braking.

* The system can react to stationary and moving objects and to moving pedestrians by applying partial or full-stop braking within the system limits and physical limits. The driver remains fully responsible for driving the vehicle safely even in these traffic situations.
