Attention Assist in the Econic.

The attention assistance system of the Econic analyses driving behaviour and can alert the driver with an acoustic signal and a visual display if they show signs of diminishing alertness. This tells them to take a break in good time, especially on long journeys.

Monitoring alertness.

Microsleep can be a major risk, especially on long journeys. The Econic’s Attention Assist helps to prevent this. It continuously tracks the driver’s behaviour and uses it to create an individual profile to detect fatigue. The system factors in various measurement data, such as longitudinal and lateral acceleration, speed, steering wheel angle, turn signal indicator and pedal movements as well as external factors such as bumps in the road or crosswinds.

The system calculates a monotony factor, which assumes that attention decreases as the driving time increases due to the tedium of the driving situation. Active driving behaviour – for example, when the driver steers or uses the turn signal indicators, accelerator pedals or engine brake – is registered as positive.

The driver is warned when the vehicle has covered a certain distance and the defined fatigue limits have been reached. A warning appears as a yellow pop-up display on the screen of the instrument cluster. It shows a bed symbol and the message “Take a break”. At the same time, a short signal sounds. The display remains visible until the driver confirms it with the OK button or deactivates the Attention Assist system.

The Attention Assist installed as standard in the Econic warns of possible fatigue or inattentiveness and can thus help to prevent accidents. In addition, the system helps the driver to better assess their own fatigue and to take breaks in good time as necessary. This increases not only the safety of the driver, but also that of all road users.
