Swedish waste disposal company Ohlssons invests in the eEconic.

Electromobility? Only with Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Ohlssons is one of Sweden’s largest private waste disposal companies. One all-electric Mercedes-Benz eEconic has been in operation here for some time now.

The company's positive experiences with the special truck were the reason that they purchased six further vehicles. "We put all our trust in the eEconic", says Christer Ohlsson, Managing Director of the company that was established in 1998.

When switching to electric mobility, the choice quickly fell on Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Ohlssons were attracted not only by the truck's good lifecycle assessment result, but also by the technology. "Mercedes-Benz Trucks has not just replaced the diesel engine, but completely redesigned the drivetrain", says the Managing Director. In the Mercedes-Benz eEconic, the drive is innovatively installed directly in the rear axle. There is no prop shaft. This saves energy and maintenance costs.

Improved working conditions and quality of life.

The eEconic was procured by Ohlssons through Swedish Mercedes-Benz Trucks general distributor Veho in Malmö. For good reason, says Managing Director Christer Ohlsson: "A refuse collection vehicle solution requires experience. Veho is a strong partner we can rely on." And Veho staff know all about the crucial advantages of the eEconic.

"The eEconic, with its low cab and folding door on the co-driver’s side, is perfect for waste disposal applications", says Admir Begovic, Sales Manager South at Veho Trucks. In addition, the ergonomic workplace is more than just nice to have, says Christer Ohlsson: "You jump in instead of having to climb up - and if you do that up to 100 times a day, you'll notice the difference."

The eEconic also improves other people's quality of life, particularly in residential areas. "When collecting household waste, you drive through residential areas. These are areas where you want to avoid noise or emissions. The benefits of eTechnology are unmistakable!"

Dauerhafte Leistung.

All six eEconics are three-axle vehicles, have a gross vehicle weight of 27 t and feature a 336 kWh battery pack. Their continuous output is around 330 kW (442 hp); the peak output around 400 kW (536 hp). This means they can cover ranges of up to 150 km in refuse collection operations – enough for one to two complete trips per day without having to charge in between. The Ohlsson trucks’ hydraulic body was provided by Finnish manufacturer NTM, a company that operates a production facility in Kalmar, Sweden. Its crucial advantage lies in continuous operation: the motor can remain in operation throughout the entire deployment phase. This has noticeable benefits, especially during quick work routines during trips around built-up areas.

Ohlssons thoroughly evaluated its operating costs during the eEconic pilot phase . The results speak for themselves: lower energy consumption, lower maintenance costs, less downtime – and all with a significantly reduced tax rate. 

There is also another crucial aspect: "The drivers just love it", says the Managing Director.
