Nine new tailor-made trucks.

Northern Irish council chooses Econic as part of their modernisation.

Narrow roads, difficult traffic, and a great many demands on fleet and crew. All over the world, municipal refuse disposal companies have to face these challenges. Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in Northern Ireland will, with immediate effect, be aided by nine Mercedes-Benz Econic trucks which have been specially equipped for them.

Upgrade for the future.

This purchase will be the start of the modernisation of this motley vehicle fleet which the council, established in 2015, inherited from three former councils due to regional restructuring. 32 waste disposal trucks in different sizes, configurations and of different ages have been collecting household waste and recyclables in the urban districts of Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne.

First choice for municipal waste disposal.

Waste Operations Manager Neil Patrick did not have to spend long searching for suitable vehicles: thanks to good experience, the 6x2 model of the Econic 2630 L was his first choice. "The Econic is extremely reliable and, thanks to its cab design, it provides a high level of comfort, ease of use and safety," says Neil Patrick, justifying the decision. With its 7.7-litre six-cylinder inline engines, 220 kW (299 hp) of output and six-speed Allison automatic transmission, the Econic, compared with the older vehicles, also contributes to "minimising the effects of our operations on the local environment," says Neil Patrick.

Things never get tight with the Econic.

With the manoeuvrable Econic which, besides the DirectVision cab, has a wide range of standard driver assistance systems built in, navigating roads lined with parked cars or complex traffic situations is far easier. The council also equipped their Econic vehicles with the optional Sideguard Assist system. "It's absolutely essential when you operate in complex traffic conditions," explains Mr Patrick. The system assists drivers making left turns or when changing lanes by means of visual and acoustic warnings. And it also protects driver and crew just as well as it does weaker road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.

The Mercedes-Benz Econic is safe and reliable.

Good all round.

"We are totally satisfied with the Econic," says the Waste Operations Manager, summing up. The new vehicles are perfectly tailor-made for the council's needs. Impressive, says Neil Patrick. Just like the customer service of Mercedes-Benz and the whole purchasing process. "Everyone has been extremely attentive and helpful, and has worked closely with us to deliver the very best vehicles."
