Power packs for high demands.

Stadtwerke Lengerich relies on the Unimog for its electricity and gas supply.

Stadtwerke Lengerich are on hand in the event of a power cut during a storm or if a transformer needs to be replaced. Covering an area of more than 300 km2, they ensure the supply of energy and light. Always by their side: a partner that maintains the balance between power and flexibility, even in challenging times  the Unimog U 327.

Energised operations.

Work at Stadtwerke Lengerich is an full of energy. The grid team of the municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia (western Germany) operates around 650 transformer stations, maintains a cable network spanning 1,700 km and 100 km of overhead lines – for electricity at medium and low voltage levels.

In addition, the Stadtwerke team is responsible for the gas network and street lighting in the surrounding municipalities of Tecklenburg, Saerbeck, Lienen, Hasbergen and Ladbergen. In total, staff are responsible for an area covering over 300 km².

Maintenance, expansion, repairs – the everyday life of municipal utilities operators is demanding and versatile. However, all of this is not a problem for the Unimog U 327 power pack.

Crane, cage and off-road power.

With the implement carrier, the municipal utilities operator relies on a vehicle that perfectly suits its needs. Power Grid Manager Peter Borgmeyer is fully convinced of the Unimog’s all-round talent: "a compact, manoeuvrable but very powerful vehicle. This combination is quite rare." A vehicle that is made for the narrow alleys in the historic old town of Tecklenburg, but also for difficult terrain beyond built-up areas.

You need to find a vehicle that can cope with that first.

Last but not least, the white Unimog U 327 operated by Stadtwerke Lengerich is a custom-made vehicle. Its highlight is the PALFINGER PK 18502-SH crane with a work cage installed by Eggers Fahrzeugbau GmbH. This allows installers to quickly and safely reach overhead lines up high.

However, the Unimog’s fields of application go far beyond this: in addition to dismantling overhead lines, replacing transformers and maintaining street lighting, the Unimog also supports the team as a transport vehicle. In some cases, it is towing 18 t trailers with emergency power generators. “You need a vehicle that can cope with that first,” Peter Borgmeyer highlights.

Flexible and durable.

The Unimog U 327 with all-wheel drive and a wheelbase measuring 3,600 mm brings a sophisticated combination of compact dimensions and power to the road. Thanks to its standardised attachment spaces and powerful PTO, it can carry a wide range of bodies and operate implements.

In combination with the crane body, the implement carrier becomes a mobile all-rounder for energy suppliers – even in emergencies. All because these are precisely the situations in which the Unimog pays off, according to Peter Borgmeyer: “It helps us with the usual maintenance work in the distribution grid, but also with fault repairs in difficult terrain.”

Strong partner.

There were no issues during the introduction of the new vehicle. “RKF-Bleses was always there to help us with questions as well as suggestions and provided us with the best possible advice,” Power Grid Manager Peter Borgmeyer reports about the Unimog general distributor from North-Rhine Westphalia. From the order to the induction, the utilities operator felt well looked after – a clear plus for everyone investing in technology and service. “Staff are also very happy with the Unimog,” Peter Borgmeyer adds to sum up the situation.

Energetic tasks need strong partners – Stadtwerke Lengerich have found one with the Unimog.
