From summer project to winter pro.
“Before, we had to carry out tasks like these manually using a tripod and manual cable winch”, explains Thomas Schroeder. Today, a loading crane and a cable winch mounted on a swap body do the job. A cable winch from Werner Forst- & Industrietechnik Scharf GmbH is also installed at the front of the vehicle – for maximum flexibility off-road.
The swap body – a custom-made feature installed by the Unimog general distributor RKF-Bleses and Eggers Fahrzeugbau GmbH – enables the Unimog to be used all year round: in winter, the platform with crane is replaced by a snow plough and salt spreader from the Bucher Municipal Yeti series.
“This gives us a vehicle that is ideal for all seasons”, says Thomas Schroeder. That means: less downtime, more deployment time. The fleet includes over 40 Mercedes-Benz Trucks vehicles and can quickly adapt to changing requirements.
Performance meets efficiency.
Equipped with the OM 936 six-cylinder diesel engine, the Unimog boasts 354 hp and 1,380 Nm of torque – both on and off the road! No matter where you are, you can see that every Unimog has been designed with everyday practicality in mind. The fleet manager is keen to emphasise that “it is specifically designed for the task at hand. You can see this in the fact that great attention has been paid to detail. For example, the vehicle has special windscreen wipers that point upwards to prevent them from freezing onto the windscreen.”
The employees at the utility companies received comprehensive training by Eggers Fahrzeugbau and RKF-Bleses – and the Daimler Truck service partners are also always there for their customers: "If there are any further questions, we are always able to get support. Everything has gone really well", says Thomas Schroeder.
Ready for new tasks.
The Unimog is not only at home off-road, but also on the company premises. And whether it be for transport, plant maintenance or winter service – the Unimog U 435 will continue to be in high demand well into the future. “Currently, our company finds itself in a transition phase”, says the fleet manager. “Cities and municipalities have to expand their district heating supply.” Old structures are therefore becoming increasingly important, especially in rural regions. And we need versatile vehicles like the Unimog to help us keep up with the times.
The Unimog has proven to be the best choice for our work time and time again.
Thomas Schroeder, Fleet Manager, Stadtwerke Bielefeld Group
Long-term satisfaction.
Thomas Schroeder is well acquainted with the Unimog. “I've been working with the Unimog since I started my training 38 years ago.” The vehicle has performed particularly well in the areas of forestry and water extraction.
“We are very satisfied”, he says. “The Unimog has proven to be the best choice for our work time and time again.” It's a vehicle that, for decades, has never failed to impress – because it is well thought-out, a great team player, and it adapts to any task. Every step of the way. In every season. Year after year.
