Effective collision warning
and autonomous braking.

Active Brake Assist 6 Plus in the Econic.

Active Brake Assist 6 Plus can detect potential collisions and react to moving pedestrians and cyclists with automated, full-stop braking in the speed range up to 60 km/h. The system is based on camera technology with additional radar sensors on the headlamps and to the side and can trigger a three-stage warning in the event of danger. For better safety in urban traffic.

Always alert.

The risk of collisions between trucks and other vehicles in front can be high. This is particularly true in inner-city traffic if sudden traffic jams occur and in stop-and-go traffic. Pedestrians crossing unexpectedly also pose a high risk of accident as the driver often only has fractions of a second to brake.

Active Brake Assist 6 Plus (ABA 6 Plus) can assist Econic drivers in critical situations1 – from issuing effective acoustic and visual warning signals right through to automatic full-stop braking.

Precise control through fusion sensor technology.

Active Brake Assist 6 Plus is an expansion of the sixth generation of this proven emergency braking system. The combination of camera and radar technology means ABA 6 Plus reacts to potential collision risks, even in poor visibility conditions, and initiate partial or full-stop braking.

The 270° fusion technology with six clever sensors and integrated multi-lane monitoring enable ABA 6 Plus to even better detect critical traffic situations.  This includes pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road, coming the other way or in the driver's lane, as well as possible hazards when approaching stationary or flowing traffic, even on wide bends typical of motorways.

Multi-lane monitoring also provides support in the following situations: If the driver performs an evasive manoeuvre while the system is actively reacting and a critical object is detected in the adjacent lane, a visual and acoustic warning can be issued and autonomous partial braking can be applied in response to the vehicle in the adjacent lane. Visual information in the display also indicates if the full system output is not yet available after a driving time of 15 seconds at more than 10 km/h.

Preventing rear-end collisions.

Active Brake Assist 6 Plus can detect vehicles in front and stationary obstacles in your own lane at vehicle speeds of up to 90 km/h. The system triggers a three-stage reaction on identifying a hazardous situation:

  1. Visual signals and a loud beep
    warn the driver.
  2. Partial braking with approx. 50% braking power
is performed to reduce the speed (if the driver has not already reacted).
  3. Full-stop braking
is initiated to bring the vehicle to a standstill (if the driver has still not reacted).

The chain of reactions is further shortened if the system detects crossing pedestrians or people standing on the carriageway. In this case, the driver is warned visually and acoustically as before, but partial braking is autonomously initiated immediately. Pedestrians are detected at vehicle speeds of up to 60 km/h if pedestrians or cyclists cross the lane of the truck, come in the opposite direction or walk in the same lane. Radar technology ensures greater reliability even in poor visibility.

Electronic parking brake with HOLD function.

The electronic parking brake of the Econic harmonises excellently with Active Brake Assist 6 Plus and ensures greater comfort and safety. When the vehicle is stationary, for example after emergency braking, the automatic HOLD function prevents the vehicle from rolling away unintentionally. When the journey continues, the parking brake is released automatically as soon as the accelerator pedal is pressed.

Taking safety further.

When Active Brake Assist 6 Plus initiates automatic, full-stop braking, the hazard warning lights are activated at the same time to warn following road users. When the vehicle is stationary, the electric parking brake is also activated to prevent the Econic from rolling away unintentionally. This also helps the driver in the period immediately after critical situations.

The safety assistance system forms part of the basic equipment of the Econic. It is active as standard and does not have to be activated separately using a switch. The intelligent warning system reduces the risk of rear-end collisions/mitigates accidents within system limits. However, the driver is still fully responsible for driving the vehicle safely. If necessary, the driver can intervene at any time, override the brake system and react individually to hazardous situations at their own discretion, for example by moving the steering, kicking down or emergency braking.

1 The system can react to stationary and moving objects as well as to moving pedestrians by applying partial or full-stop braking within the system limits as well as within physical limits. Assistance systems can only provide support; the driver remains fully responsible for operating the vehicle safely even in these traffic situations.
