The eEconic is used for waste disposal in 25 Swedish municipalities.
The Swedish waste disposal company Verdis has made a bulk order for 30 all-electric Mercedes-Benz eEconic 300 vehicles: a testament to its commitment to sustainable waste disposal logistics. Locations where the eEconic is used include the major cities of Stockholm and Malmö.
Custom-built for the city.
For Verdis, one thing is clear: electric mobility is perfect for the requirements of daily collection operations. The vehicles travel on fixed routes, at a low speed and making frequent stops. "A refuse truck drives slowly and operates for long periods of time, resulting in a lot of ancillary consumption. At night, it is parked in the yard. All these aspects make a switch to e-mobility an ideal choice for these kinds of vehicles", says Per-Erik Bjurenborg, CEO of Verdis. “The vehicles can be charged slowly and on low power - which is good for the batteries.”
And what’s more: every aspect of the eEconic's design has inner-city use in mind. The low entry, flat cab floor and wide-opening door on the co-driver’s side are major plus points when it comes to both ergonomics and safety. Especially when the vehicle is used in dense traffic.
Tried-and-tested, new drive.
The Mercedes-Benz Econic has long been Verdis' vehicle of choice, with around 70 vehicles now in daily use. The company knows all about what makes the model series great - and was curious about the electrified variant right from the start.
“We tested the eEconic in operation for a whole year”, says Per-Erik Bjurenborg. "It soon became clear: this vehicle is not just a converted diesel vehicle: Mercedes-Benz has crafted an electric truck with a perfectly matched drive concept that is fully integrated into the rear axle. It's a fantastic solution."
Every move counts – especially in collection operations. Workers have to be able to climb on board fast, and all processes need to run seamlessly. The eEconic isn't just impressive on paper: with its combination of tried-and-tested features and innovations, it never fails to deliver the goods.
Long-term thinking, dependable execution.
Verdis does not think in the short term. In the waste disposal industry, contracts often run for eight years or more – a long period of time in which investments need to pay off and technology has to prove its worth. "Electric trucks make these times far more stable. There is less wear and tear, it is simpler to schedule maintenance intervals, and the service life is significantly longer", says Per-Erik Bjurenborg.

With its order of 30 all-electric Mercedes-Benz eEconic 300 vehicles, Verdis is proof that sustainable waste disposal doesn't have to be just a pipe dream. The combination of a tried-and-tested concept, the latest drive technology and a reliable service partner has produced a strong presence on Sweden’s roads. And it has made city life just that little bit nicer.
