A breath of fresh air
for the Asian Tiger.

Singapore is headed for a safe and environmentally-friendly future with the Econic.

The Econic is already in use as a safe and efficient disposal expert in the waste industry in major cities such as London or Berlin. The tested and successful Mercedes-Benz Special Truck with low-entry concept is increasingly being used on other continents too - for example in Singapore. The Asian metropolis with high traffic volumes is looking for solutions to reduce the exhaust emissions in the city while simultaneously reducing the risk of accidents to a minimum.

Taking safety to the next level.

Compared with conventional lorries, the Econic is much safer in urban traffic as well as on expressways. The low lines of the panoramic windscreen give the driver the ideal view of the Econic's surroundings. In conjunction with the all-glass folding door on the co-driver's side and the low seat position, the driver can make direct eye contact with other non-motorised road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

The vehicle is also fitted with four external cameras and a monitor in the driver's cab. As a result, the driver also always has an eye on blind spots. The perfectly coordinated safety assistance systems also relieve the strain on the driver. These include the Active Brake Assist emergency braking system, Lane Keeping Assist, distance control and a rain and light sensor.

All Econic safety assistance systems at a glance

In this way, the Econic with the DirectVision cab and intelligent assistance systems achieves maximum safety for all road users. Good news for pedestrians and cyclists in Singapore.

High technical level with low entrance.

The low-entry cab on the Econic with just two steps – instead of up to four on conventional lorries – makes entering and exiting the vehicle safer for driver and co-driver. It looks after the crew's knees and energy levels. Designed for the city: The three-axle Econic 2630 6x2 is equipped with a steerable rear axle. This provides the necessary manoeuvrability to be able to get through even tight spots in dense city traffic. All the axles are fully air-sprung.

The Mercedes-Benz BlueTec-6 engines that are used in the latest generation of the Econic combine future viability with maximum efficiency by emitting fewer emissions and keeping fuel consumption down despite increased requirements. They are powered by a powerful 7.7-litre engine with an output of 220 kW (299 hp) in conjunction with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission.

Efficient vehicle technology in dense city traffic.

The Econic is one of the first low-emission Euro VI vehicles to conquer the roads of Singapore. SembWaste and Daimler Commercial Vehicles in Southeast Asia started a twelve-month pilot test with the implementation of the highly technically developed Econic. "Handing over the Econic to our partner SembWaste is an important milestone for us," affirms Kay-Wolf Ahlden, former Head of the Daimler Commercial Vehicles Regional Centre in Southeast Asia.

Safety is the number one priority at Sembcorp. We actively look for ways to make our operation more environmentally friendly and more efficient.

C. K. Lim, Senior Vice President of SembWaste

SembWaste has been using Mercedes-Benz lorries in their branches for years. With the Econic, the company is now taking the next step in equipping its operation in Singapore with the latest technology from Europe in order to make the future of waste disposal in Singapore not only cleaner but also safer.
