Upgrade for waste disposal in Barnsley, UK: new Econic fleet keeps things clean.
High safety standards, low maintenance costs – a convincing combination. That's what the members of Barnsley council in the UK thought: seven fire-red Econic trucks were recently brought into operation to modernise the waste disposal fleet and set it up for the future.
Sometimes more really is more.
Choosing the Econic was as straightforward as the list of advantages was long: all of the 2630 L models are equipped with six-cylinder engines, each with 7.7 l displacement, and the 220 kW output is transferred by means of an Allison six-gear automatic transmission. The electrohydraulic trailing axle increases manoeuvrability – an important factor which makes operation of the special truck easier in tight spaces.
The air-conditioned cab is easily accessible thanks to its low entry which brings greater safety and better ergonomics for staff. The low, fully-glazed windscreen of the DirectVision cab provides optimum vision for the driver, thus contributing to the safety of other road users.
The Econic trucks are equipped with a number of driver assistance systems which exceed the legal requirements. Barnsley council decided on an additional reversing assistant which uses radar technology to assist the driver when manoeuvring. The distance to an object is shown on a display as soon as it comes critically close. The pre-installation for the reversing assistant is optionally available for the Econic ex-factory and the system is then installed by another manufacturer.
