Focus on comfort and safety.
The Econic has been designed to optimally support drivers in their day-to-day activities. The low step unit, the comfortable standing height in the cab and a folding door that opens inwards make it possible to access and exit the vehicle on the side facing away from traffic. This access is particularly efficient when activities involve frequent stops. In addition, the lowered floor helps reduce the risk of accidents – such as staff slipping when getting out of the vehicle.
The fact that the Econic relies on safety features is pivotal, especially when transporting building materials through city centres. From its panoramic glazing, ensuring outstanding visibility, to the floor-to-ceiling glass panels in the folding door on the co-driver’s side: the DirectVision cab provides a great all-round view of urban traffic and construction sites. This benefits cyclists and pedestrians in particular as Econic drivers can easily identify them at an early stage.
We are delighted about Romcim’s decision to purchase the Econic to transport concrete in urban areas and are proud of the company’s commitment to promoting road safety wherever it operates.

The Econic has also been equipped with powerful engine brakes, ESP, as well as Active Brake Assist 5, the cutting-edge emergency braking system. This significantly reduces the risk of collisions with stationary or moving obstacles, which boosts the safety of all other road users.

The model Romcim ordered is an Econic chassis with four axles and a permissible gross weight of 32 t. Its manoeuvrability, which is particularly useful in urban environments, has been further improved by the air suspension, which can be adjusted by up to 160 mm, as well as the ability to increase the angles of approach and slope where required. The chassis has been equipped with a Liebherr HTM 905F L concrete mixer, a component that stands out thanks to its own safety functions, such as a rear work light and a work platform with protective system.
A special truck.
In Europe, the Mercedes-Benz Econic has been part of cityscapes for over 20 years and it has proven its reliability in various areas of application – from waste management to municipal logistics. “As a manufacturer representative we are proud that Romanian customers also rely on this solution”, Valeriu Zaharia explains as CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks & Buses Romania.Like a fish in water.Cities are growing – and so are the demands road users are facing. The Econic is Mercedes-Benz’s answer to the challenges of the present and future. Over the past 20 years, this special truck concept, an element that is repeatedly undergoing intensive test series, has evolved to form an integral part of many vehicle fleets in urban traffic. However, the Econic is not only setting standards in terms of safety – the all-electric eEconic went into series production in July of this year as a CO2 neutral alternative.
