Rechberg fire brigade relies on Unimog U 327 for water supply and forest firefighting operations.
In remote locations, every metre of hose counts. The voluntary fire brigade in Rechberg, Upper Austria, often works in confined and rough terrain. With the Unimog U 327, the emergency services have found a vehicle that can provide numerous supply and protection measures while remaining flexible and manoeuvrable.
Agile where there is no path.
With around 1,000 inhabitants, the municipality of Rechberg in the district of Perg is nestled in the tranquil hilly landscape of Upper Austria on the northern edge of the Alps. In the centre of the village stands the headquarter of the Rechberg voluntary fire brigade – a popular meeting place. Over 10% of the population are members of the fire brigade. These dedicated helpers in red have three emergency vehicles at their disposal, which also support neighbouring fire brigades when needed.
When the fire brigade had to part with one of its three veteran vehicles, a replacement was needed. It had to be manoeuvrable, robust and off-road capable in order to cope with the narrow, steep and sometimes unpaved roads around Rechberg. It also had to be spacious enough to accommodate a crew of 1:8, consisting of a group leader and eight emergency personnel.
The solution was only about 20 km away. And it had a name: Unimog.
