A suave design for heavy equipment.
Technically, the Actros impresses with its air suspension, among other things. This keeps the vehicle at a constant height irrespective of the load and prevents it from lowering when the load is heavy. At the same time, it protects sensitive goods from vibrations, as road bumps are dampened much better than with mechanical leaf springs. The even load distribution also protects the structure of the vehicle and increases the service life of the load securing systems.
The fire service's extra arm.
A HIAB X-HIPRO 232 E-5 loading crane works on the robust chassis, which gives the Actros enormous versatility. Whether it's vehicles that have been involved in an accident or clearing storm damage such as windthrow, the crane is suitable for both heavy lifting and precise, "fine motor" tasks. With a wide range of additional equipment such as a universal grab, hoist and pallet fork, it can adapt to any situation.
The body shows off its strengths, especially in firefighting operations: an electric water or foam launcher can be mounted directly on the crane via a quick-change device. There are even special lifting eyes for B pressure hoses. There is also a two-person work platform for when work at height needs to be done. The remote control makes daily work much easier for the operators in addition to improving safety.
Taking logistics to the next level.
However, the vehicle’s main area of expertise remains transport. The Actros is fitted with a Multilift Ultima 18Z.56 roll-off tipper. The flexible and user-friendly handling is perfectly suited to everyday firefighting operations. When it comes to payload, Brixlegg fire service has made a real quantum leap: while its predecessor, a small transporter, reached its limits at 900 kilogrammes, the new Actros can handle around nine tonnes.
This allows large amounts of foam or sandbags to be moved in a single trip during storms. The concept includes a body built with logistics in mind and which includes a sliding roof and cargo liftgate that can lift over 1,500 kilogrammes. A translucent roof ensures natural light inside the container, while lashing brackets and airline rails secure the load.
Motivation through technology.
The arrival of the Actros was a special moment for the team. It was a ten-year process from the first idea to commissioning – you can imagine the team's excitement when the vehicle was finally parked in the appliances facility! Feedback from members of the fire service is consistently positive: they are thrilled with the vehicle's modern equipment and fascinated by its wide application range. Intensive training ensures safety.
Eleven operators completed a special crane course at the Tyrol State Fire Service School, supplemented by weekly exercises and skills courses.
A win for the region.
With the Actros 2551, FF Brixlegg has not only modernised its own fleet, but also created added value for the entire region. The vehicle can be used across regions and greatly relieves the load on the crew during loading and transport activities. Spacious equipment boxes on the vehicle also ensure quick access to important equipment. In cooperation with bodybuilder Empl, a vehicle has been created that combines power, flexibility and safety.
