How two Saubermacher ethe Actros 300 keep the FIS Alpine World Cup fan mile spick and span.
Saalbach Hinterglemm in February: while the world’s top skiers compete on breathtaking slopes, another top performance is taking place in the background – quietly, efficiently and sustainably. Two all-electric eActros 300 collection vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Trucks keep the FIS World Cup fan mile speak and span – and protect the environment while they're at it. They are part of an innovative waste concept that reduces emissions and promotes a circular economy.
All-electric at the World Ski Championships.
Every major event brings with it challenges in waste logistics. Thousands of visitors equals a lot of waste – from food packaging to drinking cups. To solve this issue, the World Ski Championships' official waste disposal partner Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG has teamed up with the Austrian Ski Association ÖSV to come up with a clever “circular world championships concept”: it includes not only recycling, but also measures to prevent waste and reduce emissions.
And the two red Mercedes-Benz eActros 300s with bodies made by Stummer form a central part of this plan. Both vehicles are all-electric and locally emissions-free waste collection vehicles. What's more, they're also highly efficient: the use of smart waste containers with fill level indicators enable optimised route planning.
Precise logistics for a smooth process.
At an event this size, every minute counts. All vehicles need to have left the fan mile a full two hours before the race begins. It is during this time that the eActros vehicles get to work – with a clear route plan: as soon as the races start and the crowds clear, they empty the rubbish bins in the World Championship car parks and at the bus stops, as well as dealing with the recycling waste on the fan mile.
All this without disrupting event operations: the electric drive helps preserve the tranquil atmosphere of this winter idyll. While cheers roar through the streets, the eActros 300 does its job almost silently.
Efficiency for a long range.
The electric truck is also full of energy: its three battery packs with an installed capacity of 336 kWh give it enough range for it to spend the entire day collecting waste along the fan mile. And it displays a further strength in stop-and-go traffic, as energy is recovered during braking and fed into the batteries through its recuperation.
A clean model for the future of urban events.
The FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm is a shining example of sustainability and a major event going hand in hand. The use of the eActros 300 here is a testament to the fact that emission-free waste collection is already possible – and that it has a tangible, positive impact on the environment, cities and people. As the remnants of every passing racing weekend are whisked away, one thing is made clear: the future of urban logistics is electric – and right at the heart of it, on the racing line, is the eActros.
