Addition to the Götz family.

Top-of-the-range Unimog U 435 enriches the part-time business.

When others call it a day, the Götz family starts their second working day – with a shovel, heart and a Unimog U 435. A family business with power, precision and a passion for heavy equipment – and a clear preference for getting to work.

A lot to dig.

The Götz family from Lampertheim in southern Hesse is a real hard-working family: Father, mother, son - all three are involved in the family business. They called their company "Schaufelwerk". They specialise in excavation work as well as horticulture and landscaping, and their clients are predominantly private customers. There is a lot to dig around Lampertheim all year round.

The curious thing is: The Götz family runs their business entirely as a sideline.

Available when needed.

Whenever an order comes in, father Holger (53) and son Tom (22) coordinate who can do the job. Tom is studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt. His father is a building contractor.

“It works out really well. We've been operating the business since 2019. We can process orders in the afternoons, at weekends or even during the day - always depending on the urgency and order situation,” explains junior boss Tom Götz.

Feedback on the profit situation comes from Mother Katja, who does the office job.

Workhorse tailored to your needs.

After all, the men have to excavate and drive the Unimog. A brand new Unimog, by the way. They divested the U 400 from 2001 to make room for a powerful U 435 - the top-of-the-range model from the Unimog implement carrier family. The workhorse is equipped with a platform from AS Baugeräte. The highlight of the longer and wider loading area: the side walls can be folded down vertically. This saves space and is better for the material.

Four double-acting control units and a power hydraulic system are installed at the rear. In addition to the rear power take-off shaft, the Götz family has also bought a multifunctional Scharmüller attachment sled with tow hitch and K80 clutch.

We can get into any driveway.

Ready for intensive work.

The Mitas agricultural tyres are essential for progressing on difficult terrain. “We compared agricultural tractors and Unimogs very intensively. But the Unimog is the clear winner for us with its 89 km/h, its manoeuvrability, its payload of 5.5 tonnes and the hydraulics,” enthuses Tom Götz.

“This allows us to get into any driveway.” And if it takes a little longer, it doesn't affect the work with the latest generation of the universal motorised unit: “We ordered all the LED lighting available from the factory.” This makes it possible to work even in the late evenings. Additional high-beam headlights and work lamps are mounted on the roof bar - as you would expect.

Logistics? Of course!

With the U 435, father and son Götz tow a 3-axle low loader trailer from Humbaur with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 30 tonnes. Large construction machines and their attachments are transported with it. The practical hook lift trailer from Toplift-HTB is used to pick up roll-off containers and transport bulk goods.

And then the phone rings - it’s father Holger’s turn: “Tom, can you do some excavation work tomorrow after the lecture?” “Sure,” he says and is already looking forward to driving the Unimog.
