A tradition
of transformation.

Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Here, it's not about production  it’s about customising. Whether wheelbase, axles, cab or complete special-purpose vehicles: Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT) is the go-to place for tailor-made trucks with the three-pointed star. What started out as a specialised business unit in 2000 has since grown into an international partner network with the plants in Wörth am Rhein and Molsheim, France, and works closely with seven medium-sized companies.

Tailor-made by Daimler Truck.

Staff put down their tools, the factory gate closes. Another vehicle is ready for its journey to the customer. There hasn't been a vehicle like it before. Because, as Franziska Cusumano, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks, says: Custom Tailored Trucks are made “where the standard range ends”.

However, it's not uncommon for the expertise at Customer Tailored Trucks to then be applied in series production in Wörth. As a result, CTT has developed over the years into an indispensable part of the Daimler Truck cosmos.

On 2 October 2025, Daimler Truck and the CTT team celebrated the tradition of transformation in fitting style. But the story actually doesn't start in the year 2000.

Individual. Fast. Dependable.

Before CTT was founded in 2000 as its own business unit within the Daimler Truck organisation, truck conversions had been carried out at Molsheim since 1991. At the site in Alsace, France, 600 employees work on 63 truck conversion sites for special tasks. CTT supplies conversions from the chassis to the cab, from the wheel configuration to the heavy-duty coupling.

All these specialisations have one thing in common: the conversions are carried out in close coordination with the customers. And in proven Mercedes-Benz Trucks quality.

The Molsheim plant, which was founded in 1967, is only around 100 km from the brand’s largest truck plant in Wörth. Seven specialised partner companies throughout Germany complement the diverse range of conversion professionals.

Tailored solutions: CTT and the truck factory in Molsheim

Network for special requests.

The CTT network includes the partners S&G Automobil AG, F&B Nutzfahrzeug-Technik GmbH, Werner Forst- & Industrietechnik Scharf GmbH, Eggers Fahrzeugbau GmbH, Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH, BICKEL-TEC GmbH and TITAN Spezialfahrzeugbau GmbH.

First, every truck is manufactured in series production in Wörth. The CTT specialists then take over. Molsheim, Wörth and the partner companies carry out several thousand conversions each year.

As at autumn 2025, more than 325,000 vehicles have been specifically adapted for more than 140 countries. “Our solutions are individual – our implementation fast and reliable”, says head Marc Schulz.

We offer our customers completely individual solutions worldwide.

Impressive portfolio.

One of many examples of the optimally coordinated cooperation between the locations: the Actros 8x4/4 Full-SLT. This Mercedes-Benz Special Truck first rolled off the production line in Wörth as a three-axle vehicle. It was then converted into a four-axle vehicle for heavy-duty transport in Molsheim and at TITAN in Sulzbach with an 8-tonne leading axle, 900-litre tank, rear cooling system and movable fifth-wheel coupling - a real powerhouse.

The Mercedes-Benz Arocs SLT 4463 AS 8x6 was also created in Molsheim and in cooperation with the partner company Paul Nutzfahrzeuge GmbH for Baumann. With a height of 4m, a fifth-wheel coupling, heavy-duty equipment, 900-litre tank and new BigSpace cab, it was designed for maximum performance. Paul installed around 9,500 new parts - including a lowered cab and ballast platform.

Unique models made to order.

“We offer our worldwide customers completely individual solutions", says Franziska Cusumano, “from minor tweaks to highly complex custom builds.”
The list of these custom-made products is endless: CTT is equipping the Mercedes-Benz Arocs 6x6 with military equipment for Bundeswehr Fuhrpark Service GmbH, while Berliner Stadtreinigung is delighted with the particularly narrow Mercedes-Benz Econic, featuring a cab that is only 2.4 m wide.

More than 100 vehicles from Autobahn GmbH are also being converted from two- to three-axle vehicles in Molsheim for higher payloads. A further service provided by CTT is the adaptation of battery-powered vehicles in accordance with individual customer requirements.

Customised e-mobility: How CTT has created a very special eEconic.

CTT even finds solutions for the Japanese market. For example, they have equipped the Mercedes-Benz Arocs 4763 8x6 with a special cab-cooling combination whose height remains below 3.8 m, plus a heavy-duty coupling and mounting plate - fully in accordance with Japanese regulations.

For more than 25 years now, Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks has been demonstrating what is possible when more than just the standard is required. And how individual solutions help us think about the future.
