Unimog implement carrier.
TheUnimog U 219 – U 535 impresses with its design benefits, particularly where compact dimensions and versatility are required.
The Unimog supports contractors and service providers 365 days a year thanks to a wide range of add-on and body solutions.
As a universal implement carrier for professionals, no matter what the situation, the Unimog is the perfect vehicle for the task at hand. It combines its typical power, manoeuvrability, robustness and reliability with well thought-out details and innovations – a great advantage when building and maintaining roads and paths. In the winter season, the all-rounder can be used for clearing and spreading work.
Roadside paver and plate compactors.
Three work steps in one drive: With a front-mounted roadside paver, side plate compactor and rear brush for simultaneous use – for maximum efficiency and work quality. VarioPilot® variable steering ensures an optimum view of the work area. What's more, the Unimog has up to four independent hydraulic systems, safeguarding sufficient power reserves to drive and control attachments.
The road is cleaned with the front-mounted sweeper before the binder is applied. From the panoramic cab for an excellent view of the working areas to VarioPilot® variable steering and hydraulics ex works that generate high speeds even when reversing: the Unimog delivers outstanding working conditions.
For those who always strive for more.
Contractors and service providers carry out road service with the Unimog all year round, proving that this vehicle is a master of more than just one discipline.
In winter, its tasks include clearing and removing snow, which it completes effortlessly thanks to its permanent all-wheel drive, differential locks and single tyres, optional snow chains, as well as its powerful mechanical and hydraulic drives.
In warmer months, the focus is on roadside maintenance and mowing – this is also not a problem for the Unimog, with its VarioPilot® interchangeable steering and EasyDrive traction drive.
Its variability and high capacity that comes with this make this all-rounder particularly economical.
Equipped with a tipper, platform body or trailer, the Unimog can transport building materials and equipment to even the most remote locations.
Whether in the city or off-road: the Unimog is perfect for the job. It never fails to impress with a unique combination of compact dimensions, off-road capability and payload. The all-rounder can handle loads of up to 3 t on and to construction sites. And high trailer loads are also not a problem! Special Truck offers further advantages in terms of overall gross vehicle combination length and legal regulations like the Sunday driving ban.
Power through the city and across the country.
As a tractor vehicle, the Unimog delivers some major advantages. With its compact dimensions, it is ideally suited for transport with low loaders or trailers along narrow inner-city streets. What's more, it gets to where it needs to be both quickly and economically thanks to its high levels of grip, even in places where the beaten track ends. Compact, powerful, efficient: a true builder that grows with its tasks.
At work, the Unimog meets high demands in a very real sense of the word!
Often, difficult tasks have to be taken care of by hand – and at dangerous heights. No problem for the Unimog! The Unimog implement carrier and off-road specialist can be equipped with lifting platform or crane and work cage. Thanks to its optimal weight distribution and secure positioning, the equipment gets teams to where they need to be. A prime example? The Unimog implement carrier combined with the powerful Palfinger lifting platform with a jack lift of 1,300 mm and a reach of up to 16.9 m.
On secure footing, even off-road.
With its short wheelbase and compact turning circle, the Unimog can also get to hard-to-reach places of use. Off-road, the permanent all-wheel drive, drop centre axles and differential locks on both axles do the rest. TireControl plus tyre pressure control system is also available as additional equipment.
Among other things, vertical supports ensure that the Unimog is positioned securely. The outriggers' large cylinder allows the lift basket to be set up on uneven ground.
Unimog supports tradespeople in lifting building materials, PV systems, radiators, etc.
A lot depends on the Unimog: despite its compact size, it offers very long crane ranges – stable, powerful and precise. The special truck can travel up to 89 km/h to reach its deployment site and can also tow heavy trailers. It's manoeuvrable, suitable for off-road use and gentle on the ground. The ideal work tool for carpenters, heating engineers and other tradespeople driving along narrow inner-city streets as well as across uneven terrain.
Compact with excellent off-road capabilities.
In addition to the equipment carrier, the Unimog is also available for crane applications. Even with a crane body, the off-road pro still stays below a total height of 3.5 m – a decisive advantage for low thoroughfares like underpasses on the way to the construction site.
The Unimog is a truly excellent all-rounder, and all its implement solutions strive to do justice to it. Bodybuilder Fischbacher has now developed a rear-mounted crane for this special truck which – just like the Unimog itself – is brilliant in operation thanks in particular to its flexibility. What's more, it's also been named after the much-loved Unimog: Kranimog.
Mad Max sends his regards!

The Unimog can go almost anywhere and can do so in a cost-efficient manner on the most diverse types of ground. This is thanks to TireControl plus, the tyre pressure control system. With the option to select between three modes – road, sand and rough track – the correct setting for the vehicle's weight and speed is just a button push away. And nature benefits too: driving off-road with lowered tyre pressure improves traction while reducing the impact on the surface.
Extreme off-road Unimog.
Rocks, sand, unpaved roads: the extreme off-road Unimog finds a way.
All-wheel drive, fording capability and extreme torsional flexibility give the robust commercial vehicle a head start in rough terrain: the Unimog will take crews, material and heavy implements to any location, no matter how remote. Three attachment spaces with standardised connection points make it easy to attach bodies and change implements.
- Central Tire Control plus tyre pressure control system.
- All-wheel drive for powerful grip.
- Good ground clearance thanks to portal axles.
- Differential locks.
- Short frame overhangs for extreme approach and ramp angles.
- Off-road reduction for a climbing capability of up to 100%.
- Torsionally flexible vehicle frame.
- Fording capability up to 1.20 m.
Extreme off-road capability.
The extreme off-road Unimog is a true off-road professional. It owes its high ground clearance to drop centre axles that allow obstacles to be overcome with ease. The hub reduction gear is protected against dust and dirt. The Unimog’s extreme torsional capability is based on its torsional frame: all wheels are in constant contact with the ground. The chassis enables a vast axle articulation of max. 30° thanks to the use of torque tube technology and coil springs, as well as a minimum stress load on the body thanks to double three-point mounting. The cab and body can be twisted by up to 12° relative to each other. Uncompromising all-wheel drive, differential locks and constant maximum traction also ensure extreme off-road capability.
Fording capability up to 1.2 m.
The drive system of the extreme off-road Unimog is designed to enable the vehicle to ford to depths of up to 0.8 m or, on request, 1.2 m. In addition, the Unimog is also equipped with waterproof main headlights, central, high ventilation system and a double seal on the wheel hub. The catalytic converter and upright exhaust ultimately make the vehicle fully suitable for fording.
The switching logic allows the user to choose between the pre-set "Road", "Sand" and "Rough" modes. This means the correct mode for the current road surface can be set intuitively, making operator error virtually impossible. TireControl also brings benefits for nature: driving off-road with lowered tyre pressure improves traction while reducing the impact on the surface.

Schweinfurt's Waterways and Shipping Authority in Schweinfurt has been very impressed with the Unimog's genuine parts.
As Norbert Eusemann chats with us about his Unimog, his excitement is contagious. The U 400 is the fourth model that the 57 year-old has been driving since he started working at the Volkach site of Schweinfurt's Waterways and Shipping Authority (WSA) in 1981. His passion for the Unimog was ignited when he was just eight years old and later, his passion became his profession. He is also very impressed with the service it provides. He says: "Mercedes-Benz Service has definitely earned its star."
